  47. MS-DOS 3.3 or greater (DOS 6.22 preferred)
  48. 640K of memory (required)
  49. Monochrome (or color) monitor
  50. (1) 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" floppy disk drive (for software)
  51. (1) hard disk drive with 10 Meg bytes of free space (for program
  52.     and data files)
  53. (1) printer

  56. MEDshare#1  handles  various state-required insurance  forms,  as
  57. well as the HCFA-1500 (12-90).  All other reports can be  printed
  58. on 8 1/2" x 11" standard stock paper.

  61. Note: All MEDshare#1 programs are distributed in compressed format.

  63. ALL COPIES OF MEDshare *.EXE modules WILL INITIALLY LOAD AS  'UN-
  64. REGISTERED' HAVING A 100 PATIENT LIMIT.  THIS PATIENT LIMIT  WILL
  65. BE  REMOVED UPON THE ENTRY OF A VALID 'USER REGISTRATION  NUMBER'

  88. (Note:  If  you are a current user of MED#1 (old  name)  versions
  89. 1.07 S/93 or prior releases - MEDshare#1 version 1.08 can only be
  90. installed  over  your current system if your  current  system  is
  91. VERSION 1.07 'SUMMER 1994'.  You must first update your  existing
  92. system  to the 1.07 S/94 release level before you can  update  to
  93. version 1.08!)

  95. MEDshare#1 version 1.08 is a MAJOR UPGRADE from  MED#1/MEDshare#1
  96. version 1.07 Summer 1994.  ALL DATA FILES CURRENTLY USED BY  YOUR
  97. CURRENT COPY OF MED#1 (or MEDshare#1 - new name after April 1995)
  98. MUST  BE  UPDATED  TO  A NEW  AND  IMPROVED  FORMAT.   While  the
  99. conversion  program  U107T108.EXE  will  do  all  of  this   file
  100. conversion  for you your computer must have adequate  disk  space
  101. for making the new files and copying your data into them.  If you
  102. are  using an older 286 or 386 computer you may want to  consider
  103. updating  to  a  486  or  better  computer  prior  to  installing
  104. MEDshare#1 version 1.08.  (MEDshare#1 will still run on the  same
  105. computer that your current MED#1/MEDshare#1 is on even if it is a
  106. 286 or 386.)  The new 486 computers are now priced right and will
  107.  
  108.  
  109. give  you  improved  speed in handling your  data.   If  you  are
  110. considering buying a new computer try to make the following  your
  111. minimum  configuration requirements: (These  requirements  should
  112. give  you a computer that will be usable and supportable for  two
  113. to three years.)
  114.  
  115. 1. 486 or better
  116. 2. 8 Meg of memory (needed for other programs - not MEDshare#1)
  117. 3. 800+ Meg Byte hard drive (anything smaller is obsolete)
  118. 4. 3 1/2" floppy drive
  119. 5. Tape backup
  120. 6. 8x CD-ROM (or better)
  121. 7. Color monitor, .28, non-interlaced
  122. 8. Standby power supply
  123. 9. DOS 6.22
  124.  
  125. You  should  be  able  to find a system  with  these  (and  other
  126. features) for between $1,400 and $2,000.  When you purchase  this
  127. equipment  be sure that who you buy it from will offer  'ON  SITE
  128. SUPPORT', otherwise you will have to take into their shop for any
  129. problem  fix.   They  should  also  take  the  responsibility  to
  130. transfer all of your current data on to the new machine.

  132. The main consideration in updating to MEDshare#1 version 1.08  is
  133. the hard disk space needed to make file copies in and at the same
  134. time  preserve your existing old data files.  To see if you  have
  135. enough hard disk space do the following:
  136.

  138. 1. From your DOS prompt do a CD\ to your current MED#1/MEDshare#1
  139. directory where your data files are found.
  140. 2. Type DIR <ENTER> to list all files in this directory.
  141. 3.  The  end of this DIR listing will give you the  space  needed
  142. requirements  for your current data files and below it  the  free
  143. space remaining on your hard disk.
  144.  
  145. If  the  space remaining on your hard disk is not  equal  to  the
  146. space  taken up by your data files you should  consider  updating
  147. your  hardware first.  If remaining free space is not  twice  the
  148. size  of your largest data file you MUST UPDATE and/or find  more
  149. hard disk free space.

  161. UTILITIES  - APPLICATION SUPPORT - UPDATE PRACTICE INFORMATION  -
  162. INSURANCE FORMS
  163.  
  164. MODIFY  FORM SETUP:  Each format of an insurance form is  printed
  165. using  a special print module.  While the form itself may be  the
  166. standard  'HCFA-1500 (12/90)' form the insurance carrier you  are
  167. filing  with  may require you to follow special  instructions  in
  168. filling  it  out.  The MEDshare#1 system can support up  to  nine
  169. different  insurance  form  print routines.  Each  routine  is  a
  170. separate  '*.EXE'  module that you load onto your hard  disk  and
  171. then setup within the MEDshare#1 system using this UTILITY.  Each
  172. print  module  must be configured to your  specific  printer  and
  173. claim filing format needs.  In order to access the 'UTILITIES' of
  174. that  print module WITH OUT HAVING TO EXIT THE MEDSHARE#1  SYSTEM
  175. use this 'MODIFY FORM SETUP' function.
  176.  
  177. 1) Select the 'MODIFY FORM SETUP' function.
  178. 2) Use the up/down arrow keys to identify the form to work on and
  179. then press the <ENTER> key.
  180. 3) That form module will then be called up and you can access its
  181. UTILITIES and make any necessary adjustments.
  182. 4)  Upon  completion just exit the form module  by  pressing  the
  183. <ESC>  key and you will be returned to the MEDshare#1  system  at
  184. the same place you left it.
